#56 - Experiments for inclusion with Tom Van Hoey and Yalenka Mariën

In 2022, the City Deal 'E-inclusion by Design' kicked off in Flanders, Belgium. Its mission? To craft a toolbox that makes digital services as user-friendly and accessible as possible for citizens across the 13 Flemish central cities.

In this episode, we have the pleasure of chatting with Tom Van Hoey from District09, representing the city of Ghent, and our very own Yalenka Mariën from Knight Moves. Both are deeply involved in the City Deal and bring a wealth of experience in promoting E-inclusion by design and applying user-centred design principles.

Tom and Yalenka take us on a journey into the realm of Digital Inclusion, where they highlight the importance of small-scale experiments, the gentle nudges city officials sometimes need to embrace user-centred approaches, and the power of storytelling in building lasting collaborations. One of the more intriguing concepts discussed is 'safe nakedness,' which was key to fostering a culture where city officials felt at ease sharing their work-in-progress without fear of judgment.

How much do you already apply these ideas in your work? We’re curious to find out!

Shout out to Tom Van Hoey & Yalenka Mariën for this lovely conversation.
