#46 - Nudging sustainability with Chu-Yi Vuong
In this episode of the Service Design podcast, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Chu-Yi Vuong, winner of the Service Design Award 2022 for Best Student Project, to discuss her thesis titled "Save." Chu-Yi's innovative service aims to tackle the issue of sustainability in the food industry, which is responsible for 1/3 of carbon dioxide emissions globally. The increased number of natural disasters resulting from climate change has made it crucial for consumers to make more sustainable choices, especially when it comes to grocery shopping. However, with so much conflicting information about sustainability, it can be overwhelming and confusing for consumers to know what to do.
Chu-Yi's solution, "Save," is a collaborative service between the government, supermarkets, and consumers. It encourages consumers to pick fresh produce that caused little CO2 emissions in their production process and enables them to identify CO2-friendly produce in a simple way. The service essentially nudges consumers towards making more sustainable choices, making it easier for them to shop for groceries with sustainability in mind.
During the episode, Chu-Yi discusses the inspiration behind her award-winning project and her design process, which involved extensive research and collaboration with stakeholders. She also talks about the challenges she faced and how she overcame them to bring her vision to life.
If you're interested in learning more about how we can all do our part in making the world a greener place, then this episode is definitely worth a listen. Chu-Yi's project is a prime example of how service design can be used to tackle complex societal issues and make a positive impact on our world.
